Goodwood 2011.

The day before classes began, my boyfriend and I decided to go back to Goodwood House & Gardens. We'd gone on a whim last year before I began my spring semester, and it was a lovely way to spend my last free day. This year's trip was no different.

Goodwood is pretty close to the center of Tallahassee, so I was surprised to learn that most people have never heard of it! It's hidden behind the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, and is surrounded by large walls that block it from street view.

Once inside, it's absolutely amazing. Driving through the gate and up to the house transports you to a different time. We prefer to go in the early afternoon, when the house tours are done and we are left to wander on our own. The light was brilliant on this specific day.

The trees are all covered in beautiful hanging moss, and only heirloom plants are used. The house and gardens are all being restored to reflect how they would've appeared many years ago.

I'd love to visit the gardens in bloom, but we never got the chance to over the past year. Perhaps this spring break we'll make it a point to go.

Behind the gardens, we discovered an abandoned greenhouse. Last year there was a sign blocking the entrance, but this year it was gone. There is no glass left, but in place is a wonderful wilderness. Everything is overgrown and rather mystical.

It was warmer than last year, but still warranted jackets and hot coffee to carry around with us.

A path from the gardens leads to the front of the house. The first time I saw these huge plants, I was intrigued. They're beautiful and intimidating at the very same time.

The main house is framed by these gorgeous trees. It's a magical feeling, walking up to it. The style of the house is not original to it, but very fitting nonetheless. I was happy to see the Christmas decorations still up, since we'd missed them last year.

This silver gazing globe drew me in last year, as well. It's so fun to play with reflections and light.

This path leads down to the pool, which was unfortunately under service. The water had been drained, and the lining appeared to be ripped. I loved photographing it last year. It is one of the oldest pools in Florida!

We ended our walk back where we'd began, feeling refreshed and relaxed. I definitely recommend this place for anyone searching an escape from the hustle and bustle of Tallahassee.
