foodie friday.

New feature! Foodie Friday will incorporate restaurants and recipes that we try throughout the week. Since I kind of threw together the idea this evening, I thought we'd start with our favorite gourmet experience at Disney so far... The Wave at Disney's Contemporary Resort! The focus of this restaurant is on international fare with a healthy and local twist. Many of the ingredients used are locally or regionally sourced. Matching the resort, the decor is modern-from-the-70s. Fitting, since the resort initially opened in 1971. It's gorgeous!

We started off with drinks! Unfortunately, the left drink did not actually come with the Buzz Lightyear toy. That came from little brother's kiddie drink. This drink was the "Forever Young" cocktail, made up of Tito's Handmade Vodka, Cedilla Acai liqueur, muddled blueberries, agave nectar, and fresh lemon juice. YUM! My drink, on the right, was aptly named "Under the Florida Moon." With a name like that, how could I not get it?! 4 Orange Vodka, St-Germain liqueur, agave nectar, orange juice, topped with Blue Moon.

All of the appetizers sounded delicious--I definitely want to try the black bean chili with jalapeno corn muffin next time! This time, however, we shared the pan-seared scallops with cheddar risotto. I shy away from scallops most of the time because of how chewy they tend to end up. The chefs at The Wave, though, know what they're doing. These little nuggets were amazing!

I wasn't able to get great shots of everyone's dinner...(mood lighting is wonderful, but horrible for photos!)...but I did manage mine. I got the curry vegetarian stew: butternut squash, asparagus, pink lady apples, locally-sourced veggies, and a mix of jade and wild rices topped with a slice of acorn squash.

Trying not to overdo it (impossible!), we opted for the no sugar added trio dessert: vanilla braised sliced pears, dark chocolate creme brulee, and apple sauce cake with spiced cream. It was the perfect size to sustain our run to Magic Kingdom and then a hop onto the monorail for Epcot's World Showcase fireworks show!

Check back next friday for another foodie feature!
